Maths Understood
Terms and conditions
These Terms and Conditions apply to tuition provided by Maths Understood. By booking tuition, parents/carers agree to the terms set out below.
1. Tuition Services
Maths Understood provides maths tuition for students at a range of levels, including GCSE, KS3, Home Education and other agreed programmes of study.
Tuition may take place online, in person, in small groups, or through other agreed arrangements.
The content of lessons will be tailored to the student's needs, ability, goals and upcoming assessments where appropriate.
2. Lesson Bookings
Lessons are booked at an agreed regular time wherever possible.
Regular weekly or fortnightly slots are only secured once payment has been made.
Occasional or one-off lessons may be offered subject to availability, but priority will usually be given to students on regular plans.
3. Payment
Payment is required monthly in advance.
Invoices or hosted payment links will normally be issued before the start of each month and must be paid before the first lesson of that month.
Where a student begins part-way through a month, the first payment may be adjusted to reflect the number of lessons booked.
Failure to make payment may result in lessons being paused or the regular slot being released.
Payment is made monthly in advance to secure your child's regular tuition slot. This helps keep bookings consistent and avoids the need for weekly payments.
4. Monthly Plans
Monthly plans are based on the number of sessions agreed in advance.
For example, a weekly plan would normally include four sessions per month, unless otherwise agreed.
Some months may contain five possible lesson dates. Where this happens, the additional session may either be charged separately, rearranged, or agreed in advance as part of the monthly plan.
5. Lesson Cancellations and Rearranged Sessions
If you need to cancel a lesson, please give as much notice as possible.
I will always try to offer an alternative session where I can, although rearranged sessions are subject to availability and must usually be used within 28 days of the original lesson date.
Rearranged sessions are limited to the alternative times offered by Maths Understood.
If a suitable alternative cannot be arranged, the original lesson may still be charged, as the regular tuition slot has been reserved.
If a student does not attend a lesson without notice, the lesson will be charged in full.
If I need to cancel a lesson, the same principle will apply: I will offer a rearranged lesson or a refund for that session.
6. Online Lessons
For online lessons, students should have a suitable device, internet connection, and any required equipment ready before the lesson begins.
Students should join the lesson promptly and be ready to learn.
If a student is late due to technical issues on their side, the lesson will still finish at the scheduled time.
7. Student Attendance and Punctuality
Students are expected to attend lessons on time.
If a student is late, the lesson will still end at the agreed time.
If a student is more than 15 minutes late without contact, the lesson may be treated as missed and charged in full.
8. Small Group Tuition
Small group tuition may be offered for students working at a similar level or preparing for similar exams.
Group sessions will usually have a maximum of 8 students.
A minimum of 3 students is required for a group session to run.
If the number of students falls below the minimum required, Maths Understood may need to change the price, rearrange the group, or pause the group until further students join.
9. Homework and Independent Study
Homework or additional practice is usually included as part of GCSE tuition packages.
Students are encouraged to complete any work set between sessions to get the best possible value from tuition.
Homework may not be set after every lesson, depending on the student's needs, workload and upcoming assessments.
10. Progress and Parent Communication
Clear communication with parents/carers is an important part of the tuition I provide.
For students on GCSE packages, formal progress updates will be provided as part of the agreed support.
Parents/carers are also welcome to ask how sessions have gone, and I will always do my best to keep you informed about your child's progress, effort and areas for development.
More detailed written feedback, reports, assessments or additional marking outside lesson time may be charged separately unless included as part of the agreed tuition package.
11. Safeguarding
All tuition will be conducted professionally and appropriately.
For online tuition, students should ideally take lessons in a suitable shared or family space, or somewhere that a parent/carer is aware of.
For in-person tuition, a responsible adult should be present in the home unless otherwise agreed.
12. Ending Regular Tuition
Parents/carers may end regular tuition in line with the Cancellation Policy.
As regular tuition slots are reserved in advance and can be difficult to refill at short notice, one month's notice is requested when ending an ongoing tuition arrangement.
13. Tutor Cancellation
If I need to cancel a lesson, I will give as much notice as possible.
I will offer either a rearranged lesson or a refund for that session.
14. Price Changes
Prices may be reviewed from time to time.
Existing customers will be given notice of any price changes before they take effect.
15. Cooling-Off Period
Where tuition is booked online, by phone, by message, or away from business premises, parents/carers may have a 14-day cooling-off period under UK consumer rules.
If tuition begins during this period at the parent/carer's request, payment may still be due for any lessons already provided. Consumer terms should also be clear, fair and transparent.
16. Agreement
By booking tuition and making payment, parents/carers confirm that they have read and agreed to these Terms and Conditions.
